Have you ever wondered how KFC makes that delicious fried chicken? What about the mashed potatoes and gravy? Or perhaps the infamous 11 herbs and spices? Yes, it’s true, KFC makes the best southern food and fried chicken in America. Every day millions of people flood into their local KFC restaurants to get some of that tasty fried chicken and biscuits. So how do they make it taste so good? Here are a few KFC recipes that have been unveiled to the web.

A while back, a scientist believed to have found a surprising discovery about the 11 herbs and spices KFC is known for. He claimed that there are not actually 11 herbs and spices, but actually just 4. The claim was that the way the chicken was cooked made it taste like it had more herbs and spices than it actually did.

Here is one simple copycat attempt of the KFC original recipe:

Original Kentucky Fried Chicken Coating Secret Ingredients

  • 2 envelopes tomato soup mix, preferably Lipton cup-o-soup brand
  • 2 envelopes Italian dressing mix
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons dried chervil (optional, but makes a huge difference in taste)
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon instant chicken bouillon powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon tarragon
  • 1/2 teaspoon sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 cups pancake mix, preferably Bisquick brand (self-rising flour can be substituted, but won’t taste as good)

This is obviously not the real recipe, but it supposed to taste surprisingly similar. Several other recipes have also been released as well, each one claiming to taste just like the original. Some recipes contain less than 5 spices, others claim to contain all 11. In truth, we’ll probably never know the true recipe for sure.
